First Edition Friday: A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick
First Edition Friday Presents: A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick.
“In this dark world where he now dwelt, ugly things and surprising things and once in a long while a tiny wondrous thing spilled out at him constantly; he could count on nothing.”
This is probably Dick's most well known works, and for good reason. It is a semi-autobiographical science fiction deep dive into drug abuse, paranoia and conspiracy. It is a very interesting look into the 1970’s drug subculture in America, at the same time being based in a futuristic sci-fi setting.
The movie is also very good - but as usual, the book was better!
